Alex DeRosa: Extraordinary Leader

Alex DeRosa is the Executive Director of Multimedia at Syracuse University and the Co-Creator/Founder of Spatchcock Funk. Alex's generous and creative spirit is infectious upon meeting him. A natural leader who supports, engages and enriches his team and the teams in which he works with, like the Syracuse Crunch, where he acts as the game day director.

What is Empathic Leadership?

“Empathetic Leadership is putting people first vs process and understanding that human interactions are essential to a successful culture and work place that people enjoy coming to every day.”


What skills or competencies did you enhance through the coaching process?

“I became much more understanding of others perspectives and how they are seeing things differently than I might and have learned to value all opinions because i have a better understanding of why they might feel that way. Understanding this allows me to become better prepared to explain my viewpoint as well.


Share an example of a goal that you have realized as a result of coaching.

“I have become a more confident leader because of coaching. I understand my role as a leader and how to create a culture that people want to be a part of and allows for people to do their best work. Being a leader requires a strong Emotional Intelligence at times and i've really been able to work on my own EI to allow for the most internal capacity to achieve the goals at work."

What do professionals need to start anticipating as the change needed to be a strong leader?

“Leaders must lead with the understanding and empathy for people first. If we can focus on what our people need, we will get the best results.”
