What is Empathic Leadership?
“Empathic leadership is using an awareness of the traits, personality, character and needs of your team members to make decisions about how to give them the tools they need to succeed. Some team members need very detailed instructions, others need an idea. An empathic leader is one that has learned and practiced the skill of knowing how others need to be treated to maximize productivity and growth.”
What skills or competencies did you enhance through the coaching process?
“In working with others it is best to take the time to teach others how you need to be treated while at the same time both asking and observing how they best process information. Early on take the time to set expectations and revisit those expectations to give your team a sense of consistency so they will know how to meet expectations.”
Share an example of a goal that you have realized as a result of coaching.
“In the coaching process I learned that my style puts an emphasis on the calm continuation of relationships while everyone works toward a goal. This style can lead to a very pleasant working environment but also may lead to a confusion over deadlines and unproductive time spent overemphasizing relationship building long after those relationships are strong and stable.”
What do professionals need to start anticipating as the change needed to be a strong leader?
“Leaders need to realize that team members are changing. Technology has changed expectations at all levels. Those changes have consequences that dramatically impact communications behaviors. Leaders must anticipate new communication behaviors and plan for how to manage, direct and react to those communication behaviors.”

Anything else you want to share about leadership?
“Leadership is knowing what your team needs to succeed and providing the tools in the right measure at the right time.”
